Regarding Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative's (Proposed) 600MW Power Plant

  • Good jobs are scarce in NE Michigan - and will remain so with or without a new Power Plant in Rogers City. Consider negative effects on tourism and retirement.

  • What you DON'T see CAN hurt you! Even though there will be no 'smoke' coming out of the 450-foot stack, there will be sulfur & nitrogen dioxide emissions, among a list of others totaling 9,248.05 tons per year (MDEQ as of 9/24/08) -but which does NOT include either Mercury or the MILLIONS of tons of Carbon Dioxide... There are NO Federal or State regulations on the undisputed pollutant, Carbon Dioxide (CO2)!

  • Coal generates 54% of our electricity and is the single biggest air polluter in the United States. - Union of Concerned Scientists (Google: UCSUSA - clean energy). Michigan is #2 in the nation with Lung Cancer and #6 with ALL cancers overall. (Ref: Barbara Ann Karmonos Cancer Institute, Wayne State University)

  • Think you are protected by the DEQ's allowable pollution limits? How much of those can you take with no noticeable affects? Pollution also accumulates! With increased Mercury pollution that will spew out over Lake Huron and inland lakes.. Take care how much fish you eat out of the Rogers City area in the future!!!

  • With a new Power Plant burning coal and dirtier petroleum coke, will any power- producing company have a reason to produce unpolluting wind power locally? Wolverine should Expand their planned Windfarm and FORGET the Power Plant!

  • Wolverine Power stated IN LANSING that they will pass the costs of the Plant onto their Co-op customers. It will conservatively cost $2-BILLION. With costs spread over 200,000 households, that will equal $10,000-plus per Household... (and businesses!) The plant would also generate nearly five times more power than projected needs! (Google: MMA Publications - February - member applies -ALSO- Utilities Want to Charge Ratepayers sooner, Not Later - 080213)

Michigan's DEQ has announced a 60-day Public Comment period for the proposed plant, ending November 24th.

Public Hearings will be held in the Rogers City High School gymnasium on October 29th and 30th. And...

Don't forget PIE&G's Annual Meeting of the Membership, in Posen, October 24th.

Demand the TRUTH about the Plant, its TOTAL Cost and WHO Pays!
